After check-in, spend the afternoon exploring your new surroundings.
Arrival & Transfers:
Please book your flights to arrive at Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) at any time on Day 1. Airport transfers are included on the first day of your tour. Your transfer will meet you on arrival and take you to your hotel. Check-in on Day 1 is from 12pm.
After breakfast, head out to see the bustling capital of Delhi in action. Visit the 300-year-old Chandni Chowk Market, a traditional Indian market with crowded shops, narrow streets, busy roads and an explosion of sounds and sights. Shop to your heart’s content here, indulging in clothes, trinkets and delicious street food, then head to Raj Ghat, a memorial dedicated to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, where an eternal flame burns continuously.
After paying your respects to the main architect of India’s independence, pass by the historic Red Fort, a commanding Mughal palace built entirely of intricately carved red sandstone.
In the afternoon, travel to the modern side of Delhi and visit Qutub Minar, a 63-metre-high tower built to commemorate the defeat of Delhi’s last Hindu kingdom by Qutab-al-Din Aibak. Step inside the 18th-century Sikh Temple of Gurudwara Bangla Sahib, one of the most prominent houses of worship in the city, known for its tranquil holy pond. Along the way, pass by the recognisable India Gate (the ‘Arc-de-Triomphe’ of India), Presidential Palace and Parliament House.
Bid goodbye to busy Delhi as you head to the ‘Pink City’. Upon arrival in the colourful streeets of Jaipur, check in at your hotel before an afternoon at leisure.
Travel time: Driving – approx. five hours
After breakfast, head out on a tour of Jaipur, the capital of Rajasthan, land of royals. Enjoy a photo stop at the Hawa Mahal or ‘Palace of Winds’. Capture Jaipur’s most distinctive landmark, a five-storey structure of red and pink sandstone with intricately designed exteriors.
Then, begin your exciting tour at Amber Fort – an ancient complex perched on a hill overlooking Maota Lake. It holds within its sturdy walls a princely palace made of white marble and red sandstone. Gaze at the stunning interiors, featuring painted miniatures depicting scenes of wars and royal life.
In the afternoon, visit Galta Ji Temple – a pilgrimage site, once home to Hindu saints and yogis. Located just east of the city, the temple complex rests in a crevice of the Aravalli mountain range. Famed for its natural water springs, these seven sacred ‘kunds’ flow freely from a spring in the hills.
After breakfast, head to Agra, home to one of the seven wonders of the world, the Taj Mahal.
En route, enjoy a stop at the famous Chand Baori, a splendid stepwell in the village of Abhaneri. Dating back a thousand years, this deep well features stunningly carved steps all around it – a true architectural wonder of Rajasthan.
Later, arrive in Agra to check in at your hotel.
Travel time: Driving – approx. five hours
Rise and shine early today to visit the marble wonder of the Taj Mahal at sunrise. One of the greatest architectural wonders of India, the Taj Mahal was built by Mughal emperor Shah Jahan as a token of his undying love for his queen, Mumtaz Mahal, after she passed away. The marble mausoleum is so grand and elaborate that its construction took nearly 20 years, and the masons, calligraphers, painters and other artisans that worked on it were brought from around the world.
Return to your hotel for breakfast, then head to another Mughal site – the magnificent Agra Fort. Built by Akbar the Great, it was the main residence of the Mughal dynasty. Home to many dazzling structures such as Jahangir Mahal, Khas Mahal, Diwan-i-Khas, Diwan-i-Am and Moti Masjid, Agra Fort also offers spectacular views of the nearby Taj Mahal.
Later, visit Itmad-ud-Daula, an ornate Mughal tomb considered to be a precursor to the Taj Mahal with regards to its design and structure.
Spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing before transfering to Delhi Railway Station and boarding your shared sleeper carriage on an overnight train to the holy city of Varanasi.

Arrive in one of the holiest cities of India – Varanasi – and transfer to your hotel.
In the evening, get set to witness the Ganga Aarti by the mighty Ganges. Every evening at sunset, divine rituals are performed on these riverbanks, as hundreds of lamps are lit and moved in a circular fashion to the accompaniment of holy chants and music. Paying respect to Mother Ganga, the giver of life, this ritual seeks to purify the souls of devotees. A truly unique sight, this experience is sure to be one of the most memorable moments of your trip.
Get an early morning start today with a scenic boat ride on the Ganges. A principal attraction of Varanasi is the ‘ghats’, or riverfront steps leading to the banks of the river, a focal point for life in the city. At dawn, the steps are abuzz with devotees performing numerous morning rituals, offering prayers to the rising sun and taking a dip in the holy river. Sitting in the boat, gliding across the sunlit river, you get front-row seats to this grand spectacle.
Next, make your way to Kashi Viswanath Temple, also known as the Golden Temple of India. Dedicated to the lord of the universe, Lord Shiva, it sports a bedazzling gold-plated tower. Along the way, pass the Bharat Mata Mandir temple and Benares Hindu University – one of the largest residential universities in Asia.
Return to the hotel for breakfast before heading to Sarnath, where Lord Buddha gave his first sermon after enlightenment. Discoverthe innumerable shrines of this foremost Buddhist site. The great emperor Ashoka built many stupas here, alongside the famed Ashoka Pillar, adorned with four Asiatic lions. Visit the ruins of the age-old brick temple and breathtaking stupas, including the Dharmarajika, Dhamekh, Chaukhandi and more.
Unearth the treasures of this religious site on a visit to the Archaeological Museum, boasting myriad Buddhist sculptures and other artefacts dating back to the 3rd century.
In the afternoon, transfer to the railway station to board another overnight train, settling into your bunk aboard the shared sleeper carriage as you set off towards Delhi once more.
Arrive back in Delhi today, where you’ll transfer to your hotel. The remainder of the day is spent freely exploring this sprawling metropolis.
Spend a full day at leisure in Delhi. If you’re in the mood for adventure, take to the streets on a rickshaw to explore the city at speed, or for a more relaxed experience, perhaps return to the Mughal Gardens.
Your India tour comes to an end after breakfast today as you are transferred to Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) for your onward journey.
